Prop 357: Pirin v0.8.5

Summary

This on-chain upgrade governance proposal is to adopt the Nolus v0.8.5 update for the Nolus Pirin (pirin-1) mainnet which is currently running on v0.8.4. This upgrade introduces the following changes:

• Solana Sign Modes: Two custom sign modes, SIGN_MODE_SOLANA_OFFCHAIN and SIGN_MODE_SOLANA_TX_CARRIER, allow Solana wallets (including Ledger-backed ones) to sign Nolus transactions. Their activation is consensus-gated and takes effect at this upgrade's height.
• Lower Consensus Timeouts: The recommended timeout_commit and timeout_propose values written to node configuration on startup are reduced from 2.5s to 2s.

On-Chain Upgrade Process

At the designated halt height, the Nolus network's state machine will stop functioning temporarily. Validators and node operators must manually replace the existing state machine binary with the updated version. Coordination among validators is encouraged and can be facilitated through the "chat" channel in the "Validators" section on Discord. The target block for this upgrade is 26323500, estimated to occur on Wednesday, 9th of September 2026, at approximately 13:00 UTC. This estimation assumes an average block time of 3 seconds.

This upgrade carries no store migrations.

Alternatively, validators may leverage Cosmovisor to automate the binary upgrade to v0.8.5. Ensure the latest version is used to successfully implement the upgrade.
